Hi guys,

Simple question here....

My wife who drives our KZN130 (auto) just mentioned that it has recently started having an issue getting off the line. "It revs a bit high and then clunks before taking off". I've driven it and it drives fine but maybe it's an issue when cold.

I'm going to change the ATF fluid and see if that fixes it for her.

My question is where do you fill the AFT fluid?

I can see the dip stick and the drain plug, but not sure where to refill the ATF fluid once I've drained it?? - surely you don't have to fill it down the dip stick tube?

Also, I noted that if you drain the ATF fluid you will only drain about 50% of the fluid with the remaining 50% staying in the torque convertor. I also read that you can run the engine for ~10 sec once you have drained the fluid to remove the majority of the fluid from the torque convertor. Is this right or not?

thanks

Fill it up thru the dipstick tube. Trans dipstick that is...Orange one

Might pay to give me a shout if you need a hand or want it checked out. There are two other issues that can also cause a KZN130 to do that

I'm interested if this is correct? I plan on changing the fluid in mine and was wondering how to ensure that I drain the torque converter...

If you have never done or had a FULL service done to the Auto Transmissions I would recommend it as they will pull the bottom pan of and clean the strainer and magnets in there.
If you don't do this you will never actually know the condition of the fluid that comes out (unless it is a different colour other than red) as the magnets pick up any metal bits that may be coming off the friction clutches
Any decent transmission place can do this as the A343 is a common transmission in other 4wd's as well. There is nothing special about it.

Have a look at this post how to flush the trans oil.

It's also recommended to install a Magnefine filter inline to filter out any small metallic elements which can lead to premature trans failure.

You wouldn't know how much a full transmission service costs would you dingo?
is it easy to drop the pan and clean the magnets your self?

I know of people who have been charged upwards of $500 for this..

You need to remove the front section of the exhaust to get the pan off. Removing the front driveshaft can make it a bit easier too but isn't really necessary
